Taxation has been an area of special concentration for members of our Firm for more than 30 years. The attorneys in this department take great pride in providing our clients with innovative approaches, both in tax planning and tax controversies. Several of our attorneys have backgrounds in accounting and hold advanced degrees in tax law, some have had prior work experience as counsel to the Internal Revenue Service.
We represent clients in a broad range of tax related areas, including: entity tax structures and planning; charitable planning; tax exempt organizations; state and local taxation; international structures; individual tax planning; controversies with the Internal Revenue Service and with state taxing authorities; litigation Involving tax matters before the United States Tax Court, the United States District Courts; and the U.S. Court of Claims; employee benefits; and partnership, limited liability company and joint venture planning.
The attorneys in this department are also well equipped to provide highly personalized services in the areas of estate planning and estate and trust administration. Our Firm's practice in this area is attuned to specific client circumstances, including family needs, preservation of wealth and of business interests, and minimization of estate taxes for both domestic and international clients. We are experienced in using a variety of sophisticated techniques to minimize estate taxes, including family limited partnerships, QTIP and QDOT Trusts, GRATS, GRUTS, QPRTS, charitable annuity and unitrusts, sales using self-canceling notes, and family charitable foundations. We are also experienced in administering estates through the probate process, in administering trusts that pass property outside of probate, in handling estate tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service, and in litigating will contests and other issues that may arise during the administration of an estate or a trust.
