"A trial lawyer should be the prism through which the judge and jurors come to see the facts."
A major Manhattan newspaper recently described Alan J. Kluger as a "powerhouse trial attorney." The international lawyer-ranking guide Chambers and Partners said he is a "tough litigator" who manages the fine balance between being "determined without being hostile." A founding member of KPKB, Alan is a veteran courtroom lawyer who represents some of the nation's largest businesses and most prominent individuals in their most challenging cases.
For the trustees of two major failed banks, Alan recovered more than $100 million. For a major commercial property developer, Alan achieved a significant malpractice settlement against one of the nation's largest law firms. For an international financial services provider forced to abandon its plan for a global Internet service, Alan negotiated a substantial settlement with the top-tier professional-services firm that failed to deliver.
When the Seminole Indian Tribe needed to consolidate its ownership of it hotel, resort and casino and was faced with strong resistance from its non-tribal entities Alan’s strategy enabled the tribe to emerge victorious. In a battle between two of the nation's top telecommunications providers, Alan won an appellate ruling of first impression that not only saved his client but that prevented an onslaught of similar suits nationwide.
Skill and savvy, honed through decades of experience, enable Alan to deliver results that earn the loyalty of his business and financial clients. They likewise distinguish his work for individual clients, many of whom are high-profile celebrities. Alan's approach is typified by his representation of baseball legend Alex Rodriguez in his divorce. Under the glare of intense media scrutiny, Alan helped Rodriguez and his former wife quietly achieve a confidential settlement that was peaceful and equitable. Alan brought about a similar outcome when he represented Karen Kozlowski in her divorce from former Tyco International CEO Dennis Kozlowski. Alan negotiated a confidential settlement that was amicable and fair.
In bet-the-company cases, businesses put their money on Alan. His clients run the gamut of the business and financial worlds – financial institutions, Fortune 500 corporations, emerging entrepreneurs, major commercial real estate developers and national private equity groups. Many of his current clients came to him after first facing him as an adversary. His success in litigation, he will tell you, is won well before he ever sets foot in a courtroom. Thorough preparation. Thoughtful strategy. Mastery of the facts and law. These are the elements that distinguish Alan's work. These are the reasons he consistently earns top rankings by peer-reviewed publications such as The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA and Florida Super Lawyers.
Devoted as he is to his clients, Alan is equally passionate about his community. He and his wife, Retired Judge Amy Dean, created a private charitable foundation, the Dean-Kluger Charitable Foundation. Its initial assets consisted of the proceeds from the sale of their extensive Judaic Collection, including more than 70 Jewish charity boxes, some more than three centuries old, representing the charitable institutions of former Jewish communities from around the world. Proceeds from the collection are used to meet the foundation's charitable goals.
A devoted patron of the arts, Alan and his wife own a world-class encyclopedic collection of Latin American art spanning from 1945 to the present. Alan and Amy often open their home and collection to host fundraising and charitable events. Over his many years of community service, Alan has been a founder of the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center, a trustee of the Miami Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, a past president of Florida Hillel Council, and a former member of the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board.
