Our tax practice concentrates on federal and international matters. We provide tax planning and advice for high net worth international individuals and their family members, many of whom are or may become subject to United States taxation. We handle matters for a variety of business clients involved with either the entry of foreign enterprise into the United States market or the international operations of domestic business. We also assist in the representation of clients in tax controversies at the administrative and judicial levels.

Joel J. Karp is of counsel to Cantor & Webb P.A. His practice focuses on international tax and estate planning and international insurance law for high net worth international clients and their businesses.

He is a member of the American, International, New York and Florida Bar Associations; member of the International Law Advisory Committee and the Foreign Tax Advisory Committee of the Florida Bar Association; and has served as a Council member of the International Fiscal Association (U.S.A. Branch) and Regional Vice President of the Southeastern Region, and as Adjunct Professor in the Tax Program at Florida International University.
Mr. Karp has served in an advisory capacity on several legislative projects in the United States and has been special advisor to the Registrar of Insurance Companies, Commonwealth of the Bahamas, relating to the External Insurance (Amendments) Act, 1996, and industry representative relating to the proposed External Insurance Act, 2008.

He is a well known author and lectures on international tax matters, and has been included in each edition of Woodward/White’s Best Lawyers in America for the past 30 years, and in Euromoney’s Guide to the Leading U .S. Tax Lawyers and Euromoney’s Guide to the Leading U.S. Corporate Tax Lawyers as well as Chambers World Leaders in the Legal Profession USA 2008.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he received his B.A. degree from Columbia College in 1961 and his LL.B from Columbia University Law School in 1964. He is admitted to practice in New York and Florida.
